Mr. Baliles opened the meeting by introducing Police Chief Alfred Durham, who has been in the position for 5 months. Chief Durham explained his philosophy on community policing and policies he has implemented, encouraged the community to work with police, and described how recent national events involving police have affected the public’s perception of police officers.

Mr. Baliles explained Council’s action from the previous evening to not support an expedited resolution. He provided background and context surrounding the issues involved with the Mayor’s desire to put a Children’s Hospital on the 61 acres located at the Diamond’s Boulevard site.
